Bentara Papua Attends the West Papua Province and Southwest Papua Province Development Partners Meeting. Manokwari March 7, 2025
This meeting was attended by several local and international NGOs and academics who are members of the "Development Partners" and the Government. "Sustainable Forests and Prosperous People" is the opening sentence delivered by the Secretary of BRIDa (Regional Research and Innovation Agency) of West Papua Province, Mr. Erens Ngabalin. S.Hut., M.Si in his remarks.
This development partner meeting discussed the work that has been done by each NGO in West Papua and Southwest Papua, more specifically the MPTP Landscape (Mahkota Permata Tanah Papua), with issues of organizing indigenous communities, indigenous community areas, regulations, capacity building, natural resource management, and local entrepreneurship development presented by CLUA (Climate Land Use Alliance) Indonesia, Packard Foundation, Konservasi Indonesia, EcoNusa Foundation, WRI Indonesia, Samdhana Institute, Bentara Papua, FFI, WWF Indonesia, GGGI, Greenpeace, PERDU, Panah Papua, EkoZona Papua, and the Mahkota Permata Tanah Papua Foundation.
Bentara Papua's contribution to empowering indigenous communities and development in Tanah Papua from 3 working areas, namely the Arfak Mountains Regency of West Papua, South Sorong Regency and Raja Ampat Regency of Southwest Papua; (1) Management and processing of Natural Resource Potential in a fair, sustainable and customary manner; (2) Organization of indigenous communities, indigenous community rights, and customary forests; (3) collaboration with parties; (4) development of business units; (5) management of forest and marine ecosystems; (6) Sustainable agriculture; (7) strengthening indigenous youth communities and indigenous youth movements.

The Government and Development Partners have committed to collaboration and identifying priority issues regarding sustainable development in West Papua Province and Southwest Papua Province.
This meeting also discussed other opportunities that can be found in the BRIDa initiative. West Papua Province together with Development Partners will hold the "12th International Flora Malesiana Symposium & The 1st International Nature-based Climate Solutions Conference" in Manokwari, 21-26 July 2025. This activity is a forum for stakeholders, both at the local, national, and international levels to support sustainable development in Papua, especially in the midst of the process of preparing regional development planning documents. In addition, it is also planned to invite elected governors throughout Papua to be able to strengthen the commitment of the six Provincial Governments to sustainable development throughout Papua.
