Visit of CLUA and ICONIC Teams at Solol Bentara Papua Station, West Salawati District, Raja Ampat Regency
During the visit on Saturday, April 12, 2025, the CLUA (Climate and Land Use Alliance) Team and ICONIC ADVENTURES represented by Mery Nemerov as CLUA Funding Director with Ria Mariamah, CLUA Staff. Their arrival wanted to learn and listen to the work of the Bentara Papua Association, such as what activities Bentara does in assisting the community, and what alternatives are provided for livelihoods that do not damage the forest ecosystem. The CLUA and ICONIC teams are also building relationships with various parties in terms of funding (donors) can refer to friends of Bentara Papua or other NGOs to continue activities in protecting the environment and forests.

In her introduction, Mery Nemerov said, "This is my first time in Indonesia and it is very important for me to understand how the activities here protect the environment and forests." The Funding Director also said that the purpose of his visit was to build relationships between various parties in terms of funding (Donors) that can refer to NGOs in Papua to continue activities properly.
"We also want to learn and listen to what activities are carried out by friends from Bentara Papua in assisting the community," said Ria, one of the CLUA staff who participated in the visit. She also talked about illegal logging which is one of the sources of deforestation in Papua. "Now we are looking at several locations for future visits so that there are locations that we can recommend for our activities," continued Ria.
During this visit, Yunes Bonay as the Bentara Papua Program Manager told a brief history of the first time Bentara Papua worked at Solol Station "We did our first assessment here, one of the results of our assessment was the existence of illegal logging which had an impact on environmental damage (landslides, etc.) so that Bentara Papua took the initiative to focus on developing local commodities that have economic value to reduce illegal logging activities." In addition, Yunes Bonay also conveyed the activities that have been carried out, one of which is the Merdesa Village School (SEKAM) activity which was first carried out by Bentara Papua at Solol Station. He also invited the CLUA and ICONOC teams to tour Solol Station to see the activities carried out by the Solol Village community making products such as making banana flour, coconut cooking oil, VCO (virgin coconut oil) and smoked fish sauce, products from SEKAM.

Hopefully in the future more donors will know Papua and more funding will flow here, especially to sustainability initiatives from indigenous peoples and benefit the sustainability of Papua's natural ecosystem, one of which is carried out by Bentara Papua friends in Raja Ampat Regency, South Sorong and Arfak Mountains Regency.
